Black Joy: Resistance, Resilience, and Reclamation
Black Joy will commence during Black History Month and illustrate a vibrant cultural experience that aims to uplift, educate, and celebrate. This event will present an exciting array of musicians, drummers, dancers, spoken-word artists, and theatrical performances, all uniting to honor Black history and culture. It will also spotlight the beauty and resilience embodied in Black Joy. There are three main themes that will serve as pillars, guiding viewers through a journey that celebrates the rich tapestry of Black expression; resistance, resilience, and reclamation. Each theme will intricately weave together the threads of history, culture, and creativity, showcasing the diverse ways in which artistry has been used as a powerful tool for storytelling and self-expression. From the vibrant hues of visual art to the rhythm and soul of music, dance, and song the show will illuminate the beauty and resilience that lies at the heart of Black creativity.
Through this carefully curated program, Soul Movement will expand access to high-quality cultural activities that reflect the diverse stories and creative talent within the community.
