Over the summer, dancers have two options, take a break or continue dancing. We are elated that we have dancers that not only choose to dance but audition for dance intensives outside of the state.

We have had three of our current dancers attend the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s Summer Dance Intensive; Elisse Howard, Azoyah Nelson (Level II Scholarship), and London Stanley (Level II Scholarship). This is a success for various reasons but for us at Soul Movement having our students enter the doors, take class alongside talented dancers from across the nation, in the studios where the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s Professional companies (Ailey I and Ailey II) take class and rehearse leaves our hearts gracious. The legacy of Mr. Ailey is the foundation and guide for Soul Movement. We are ecstatic to provide the space for young dancers from Palm Beach County to train and pursue their dance goals.

Pictured are Elisse, Azoyah, and London along with Judith Jamison. She danced with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater from 1965 to 1980 and was Ailey’s muse. She later returned to be the company’s artistic director from 1989 until 2011, and then its artistic director emerita.
